How to do injection molding for thin-walled injection parts
Standard injection machines can be used to produce a variety of thin-walled products. The performance of the new injection machines now exceeds that of 10 years ago. Advances in materials, gate technology and design have further broadened the ability of standard injection machines to fill thin wall parts. But because of the decreasing wall thickness, a more special injection machine with high speed and high pressure performance is needed.
For example, for an electronic component less than 1mm thick, it is normal for the filling time to be less than 0.5 seconds and the injection pressure to be more than 210MPa. The hydraulic injection machine for thin wall injection is designed with a pressure reservoir to drive injection and mold frequently. All-electric injection machines with high speed and high pressure performance and electric/hydraulic injection machines are also available. In order to withstand the high pressure of the new injection machine, the minimum clamping force must be 5 to 7 t/inch (projected area).
In addition, large formwork helps reduce bending when wall thickness reduces injection pressure increases. Injection machines for thin-walled products have a tie rod to template thickness ratio of 2:1 or less. In the production of thin-walled products, the dead-cycle control of injection speed and pressure, as well as other processing parameters, helps to control mold filling and pressure preservation under high pressure and high speed.
As for the injection volume, the large diameter cylinder is often too large, the recommended injection volume is 40% ~ 70% of the cylinder capacity, the total molding cycle of thin-walled products is greatly shortened, it is possible to reduce the minimum injection volume to 20% ~ 30% of the cylinder capacity. The user must be very careful when injection molding, because for the material, a smaller injection volume means the material stays in the barrel longer, which can lead to a decline in product performance.
Summary:
Standard injection machines can be used to produce a variety of thin-walled products. The performance of the new injection machines now exceeds that of 10 years ago. Advances in materials, gate technology and design have further broadened the ability of standard injection machines to fill thin wall parts. But because of the decreasing wall thickness, a more special injection machine with high speed and high pressure performance is needed.
